Sons and Brothers We Will Carry On

Hello all, Aaron Wolking here. Well, 2008 has come and gone and here we are, beginning 2009. This is a big year for us. April 9th, 2009 will mark the 10 year anniversary of Sons and Brothers; that’s when three rather young and nervous gents and their dad first put together a real set and had their first real performance at the Black Rose Acoustic Society. Man, have we seen some stuff since then! It seems like we have gone countless miles, learned countless songs, and played countless shows. The vast majority of these have been great, some not so good, but all of them memorable.

We have made many, many friends. I think we have probably made some fans. We just really hope all the people who have been listening to us have had half as much fun with our music as we have. You cannot believe what a blast it has been to get to do this with your family; absolutely amazing is the only phrase that comes even close to summing it up.

We have been through really good times and some really trying times. This year looks like it will probably be some of both. You all probably know we lost someone very special last year. On October 15th 2008, our beloved dad, husband, brother, and band leader Frank Wolking was given the ultimate reward for a life well lived and was taken to be with our Heavenly Father. Even as I write this, it seems hard to believe that a man that strong, brave, and good could ever really be gone. You hear a lot about courage these days, but rarely does one get the chance to really see it in the flesh. We did. We had the honor to see true courage every day, at home, in the van, and on stage as Dad fought the cancer. He took the disease and just fit it into his schedule; it was going to take something a lot bigger than that to slow him down. Our totally awesome mom Val jumped in and took care of him and together (that includes everybody’s favorite uncle Fred) we kept piling on the miles. It was nearly two years after the diagnosis, and I think virtually every minute was just grand. In that time, we made the best music we have ever made.

Well, believe it or not, there is a point to all this rambling. You can’t replace a guy like Dad. Never can, never will. But, we can keep playing the music we all love and we can stick together. That is what Dad wanted and that is exactly what we are going to do. It will never be the same; we’ll never be exactly the same band again. But, God willing, it will still be good. It will still have the same heart, the same passion, the same enthusiasm that has driven us along these ten years. So, I guess what I took 475 words to say can really be summed up by this: we are still here. We are not going anywhere. God willing, we are going to keep this music thing going for many, many years. If you all stick with us, we will make more music, more memories, more great times for a long time. So, catch up with us somewhere and say hey; we’d love to see you. We’ll run into you down the road soon (not literally run into you though, more of a figurative running into you). Glory to God!

Aaron
